The Piece I Wrote for My Sister
After my sister, Suzanne, passed away in 2006, her husband gave me her keyboard.
I brought it home and placed it beneath one of her paintings. Not long afterward, I sat down and began writing this piece as a tribute to her.
At the time, I had no idea it would become the beginning of my life as a composer.
I was simply trying to put something into music that I couldn't quite put into words.
Her creativity helped set me on a path I never expected.
I love you, Sis.

Taken Away (Reprise) appears on my album Quietly Gathered.
Whenever I hear this piece now, I hear more than the music. I hear my sister and I hear where all of this began.
